Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, a Nightstand, and a Mystery

Recently I had a small paint party with a friend. We painted her bookcase and a nightstand in my guest room. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint was our weapon of choice.

This nightstand has been avocado green since the 1960s. It was high time for a makeover. It has nice details--the grooves down the front of the legs and the little dentil molding along the front:

It has cute, old-fashioned hardware that I like:

And purty feet. (Yes, Pao, your feet are purty, too. All four of them.)

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is so easy to use--no sanding or priming needed. Just slap that stuff right on! You can wipe it off with a damp rag to get a distressed look. When you have the painted piece the way you like it, you apply a coat of soft paste wax, let it dry for 24 hours, then buff it with a soft cloth. Here we are, doing a sloppy job of painting. Ah, well. It's Cottage Style I'm after, so it's okay:

I love the way the nightstand turned out!

It looks very pretty next to the bed, with its matelassé cover:

The vintage hardware reads almost black against the white paint. I might lighten it with some silver Rub-n-Buff, but for now I'm leaving it as is:

I'm also leaving a tiny scrap of a photo stuck inside the nightstand's drawer. I have no idea who this pretty blonde is, or how she got here.

When decorating, it's nice to have a little mystery here and there.

  1. Looks great! I'd like to try this on some of my pieces...but I think I need you to come up for another visit and hold my hand! xoxo
