Muffin Tin Fun

I saw something on the Interwebs a few days ago that seemed like fun.

Take a regular ol' muffin tin, put a tiny dog treat--or a single piece of kibble--in each cup, and cover each treat up with a toy:

Encourage your dog to use his/her sense of smell to notice the treats, and sit back to watch the fun. Pao Pao figured out how to pick up the toys with his mouth and remove them from the tin to uncover the treat below:

He also used the paw-and-dislodge method:

At times he appeared a bit baffled by what was going on:

And sometimes he erroneously thought the dislodged toys held the treats:

But his nose kept returning him to the muffin tin and the treats that lay within:

It was really fun to watch him figure it all out:

If you didn't have enough dog toys, you could use small wood blocks, matchbox cars, or anything that partially obscures the treat but doesn't totally block its scent:

I guarantee you and your dog will have fun with this game.

Good dog, Pao Pao! You found all the goodies.

  1. I love this! I can't believe Pao Pao was so chill about the whole thing....I think my terriers would have that pan flipped in 3 seconds, treats gobbled, toys everywhere. I'm going to try it this weekend though! Thanks for the great idea and cute photos!

    1. Hee hee. Let me know how it goes. If you suspect you have "pan flippers," maybe you can begin by anchoring the pan down in some fashion so they are forced to use their wits more and brute strength less. Brute strength. Heh.
