Today, the Cambridge sky has been a brilliant, mostly cloudless blue, and it has been lovely. Then, suddenly, a veritable snowstorm came and went in the space of 10 minutes! And, just as suddenly as it came, it had gone, and we're back to blue.
When I stuck my head out my window to experience said storm (like any curious LA girl would, I should think), I saw this funny thing a few feet away from my balcony:
It's just a drainpipe, as far as I can tell, but it's quite ornately decorated with flowers and knots and the date "1913" on it.
It struck me as odd, and also very sweet, that someone bothered to make this ordinary drainpipe just a little more beautiful, especially when it would be stuck next to a 3rd floor window and probably hardly ever seen. So, I'm glad I saw it and was able to appreciate it in some small way!
I love that--a relic from a bygone time, when no thing was too humble to be beautifully crafted and/or ornamented.
