Not Quite a Resolution

I'm not usually a January resolution maker; it's too easy to become a February resolution breaker.

So this is more like an experiment.

Except that I'm doing it publicly, on this blog.

If I mess up, you can call me on it and tell me get back on the wagon, or up on the horse, or put my nose to the grindstone again.

Anyhow, over the last few years I've lost a lot of flexibility on the floor in Second Position (legs spread apart, for you non-dancer types). I can barely push my legs past 90 degrees.

Not good!

And yeah, I'm not 17 or 27 or even 37 any more. But sitting on the floor in Second is something I need to be doing for the next 30 years or so. Because there's yoga classes. Pilates classes. Playing with pugs. Or grandchildren (someday). They all demand a good, solid Second. Not this measly excuse-of-a-Second:

So here's the deal:

I'm going to stretch out my Second for five minutes every day, for the entire year. If it gets better, it'll be easy to notice because the number of floorboards between that window and my, um, yoga pants will decrease.

Every month I'll post a picture on this blog to keep me motivated. Nothing like public failure to keep it real.

So, here's where I'm starting, on January 1:

Ugh. Roosevelt the Cat is unimpressed. So am I, Rosie, so am I.

Wish me luck!
